The WOW Moment Of This Week: From My Eyes
This week, we’ve just been sorted into our school houses: an act that truly brings joy to my heart and soul as it symbolizes the commencement of the intramural competitions, a series of intra-school competitions where we participate in friendly competitions between the four houses, named after famed mythical horses: Kanthaka, Pankti, Chetak, and Sarangi. This is truly an integral part of school life at Manchester, as our houses help uncover our solidarity and deep sense of school spirit and pride.
Today, we received our house list along with our house mentors: the teachers who guide and accompany us throughout our year-long intramural journey. This moment was a defining point of this year for each one of us- as our coordinator read out the house list for the year, every one of us was filled to the brim with excitement and anticipation, hoping to be put into the same houses as our friends.
Soon after, we learnt about the upcoming intramural sports competitions that are right around the corner: the perfect opportunity for all kinds of students. Whether you’re looking for a light way to blow off some steam with friends, or if you’re serious and want to channel your athletic energy into a cooperative sport, where your actions contribute to a larger picture, our intramural competitions are perfect for a diverse range of students to demonstrate their camaraderie and school spirit in a series of fun events!
However, the best part of intramural competitions, in my opinion, is always saved for last: the decision of which team gets the house trophy. Each year, the house trophy is given just after our Sports Day, an event where we exhibit our athleticism. The house trophy is one of the most rewarding parts of the year, as all the effort we contribute to our house is given back, although we do have to wait all the way until the end of the year to receive it, building our anticipation all the way from day one.
Even though my house only consists of a few of my close friends, I’m truly excited to see the house-wide bonds that we’ll be able to form this year through the joy, happiness, frustration, anger and unity that all of us will undoubtedly share. Although the sorting of houses only occurred this week, I can already imagine its consequences- whether academic, athletic, or extracurricular, I truly feel like this year is going to hold so many surprises in store for us, which is why this is truly the wow moment of this week!
