World Pulses Day: When Learning Turned Delicious !

World Pulses Day at Manchester was unlike any other school day—it was a day when our classrooms turned into creative kitchens, and learning came alive through food, teamwork, and experimentation. As MYP students, we were given one simple challenge: create dishes using only pulses. What followed was a burst of ideas, laughter, collaboration, and discovery.

From colourful salads to rich mousses and even brownies made entirely with pulses, every group explored how something so simple could be transformed into something innovative and exciting. We realised that learning does not always happen through textbooks; sometimes it happens when you measure ingredients, test recipes, make mistakes, and try again.

The activity helped us understand the importance of pulses—not just as food, but as a sustainable source of nutrition. We discussed food security, health, and how traditional ingredients can be used in modern ways. It connected science, health education, culture, and creativity in one shared experience.

What made the day memorable was the spirit of collaboration. We planned, experimented, supported each other, and celebrated every small success. Some dishes turned out perfectly, some didn’t—but every group learned something valuable.

As MYP learners at Manchester, inquiry and reflection are a part of everything we do. This experience reminded us that learning can be hands-on, meaningful, and joyful at the same time. It also showed us how global ideas like sustainability can be understood through simple local actions.

World Pulses Day didn’t just teach us about nutrition—it taught us teamwork, innovation, and responsibility. And most importantly, it showed us that learning becomes unforgettable when we create it together.
