Learning Through Curiosity
When I think about my time in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), the first word that comes to my mind is curiosity. Learning in the PYP was never about memorising answers; it was about asking questions and wanting to know why things happen the way they do.
From the very beginning, the IB PYP encouraged me to think, wonder, and explore. Every unit of inquiry started with questions, not answers. Instead of being told what to learn, we were guided to discover ideas on our own. This made learning exciting because it felt like an adventure rather than a routine.
I learned that it’s okay not to know everything, as long as you are willing to ask, explore, and reflect.
One of the best parts of the PYP was learning through projects and hands-on activities. Working with my classmates on experiments, presentations, and group discussions helped me better understand the concepts. Learning together made lessons more fun and meaningful.
One project I clearly remember was when we explored natural systems around us. We observed our surroundings, researched ecosystems, and shared what we learned with the class. It helped me understand how nature works and how our actions affect the environment. That project made me feel responsible and more aware of the world around me.
The PYP learner profile helped me grow not just as a student but as a person. I learned to be open-minded, caring, confident, and reflective. Listening to different opinions during class discussions taught me respect and empathy.
Slowly, I became more confident in sharing my ideas and learned how to collaborate more effectively with others. These qualities helped me both inside and outside the classroom.
At Manchester International School, learning in the IB PYP went beyond textbooks. I learned that making mistakes is part of learning and that challenges help us grow. Teachers encouraged us to reflect, improve, and try again.
The PYP helped me become independent and take responsibility for my learning. It made me curious, confident, and excited to learn new things every day.
As I move forward in my learning journey, I carry the lessons from the IB PYP with me. The programme taught me how to think, question, and learn with purpose. I now understand that learning doesn’t stop in the classroom; it continues everywhere.
The IB PYP has shaped who I am today, and I know my curiosity will continue to guide me wherever I go next.
