Programme Overview

Preparing for Excellence

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) at Manchester is designed for students aged 11 to 16, offering a challenging and balanced education that develops critical thinking, creativity, and global awareness. Students study eight subject groups, including languages, sciences, mathematics, arts, design, and physical education, building strong academic foundations and essential life skills.

Through inquiry-based learning and real-world global contexts, the MYP encourages students to connect classroom learning with the world around them. The programme nurtures communication, collaboration, research, and self-management skills, preparing students for the rigour of the IB Diploma Programme and for success beyond school.

What sets this programme apart

Why choose the IB MYP?

An interdisciplinary bridge from primary curiosity to diploma excellence

Interdisciplinary Connections

The MYP encourages students to find meaningful links between subject groups, developing the integrative thinking that sets IB graduates apart at university and in their careers.

Service as Action

MYP students apply their learning to genuine community challenges through structured service learning, building empathy and a sense of civic responsibility alongside their academic work.

Global Contexts

All MYP learning is framed through real-world themes — from identities and relationships to globalisation and sustainability — connecting school to the issues that shape the modern world.

Personal Project

A culminating Year 10 project in which students independently choose a topic, design a process, and produce a meaningful outcome — developing self-management, research, and reflective skills.

Academic Challenge

Rigorous standards across eight subject groups ensure that MYP students are thoroughly prepared for the demands of the IB Diploma Programme and the university admissions process.

E-Assessment Ready

MYP students are prepared for the optional external e-assessments, a globally recognised qualification that can open additional pathways for students at the end of Year 10.
